Author Guidelines

Submission of manuscript

The journal accepts manuscript as a single Word file with a title page (with title, author’s names and affiliations, and corresponding author’s details) and main manuscript content containing introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusion, acknowledgments and references. Article without full author’s details and other key components at first submission will be returned for correction.

 

Types of Articles

Research papers

Original full-length research manuscript which has not been published previously, except in a preliminary form such as conference abstracts and not in consideration for publication in another journal. The manuscript should contain, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusion, acknowledgment, statement of conflict (if any), authors contributions and references (in journal specified format). Article without a missing aspect will be returned for correction.

Review articles

Literature writings in areas and topics of interest. The literature has to be recent with good applications. The literature should not exceed 10,000 words from introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusion, acknowledgment, statement of conflict (if any), authors contributions and references (however, the word count does not include references). Original figures and tables should be used where appropriate. The editorial office should be contacted for advice before submission.

Short communications

Short communications of up to 3500 words from introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusion, acknowledgment, statement of conflict (if any), authors contributions and references (however, the word count does not include references). The short communication could be describing work that may be of a preliminary nature, with significant contributions when published. These submission should not contain more than 20 references.

Case Reports

The journal accepts case reports from time to time on cases of topical interest and scientific relevance.

Letter to the Editor

The journal accepts letters to the editor from time to time on matters of topical interest and scientific relevance.

 

Article Sections

At the point of submission, authors are requested to indicate the section of interest, where they prefer their manuscript to be published either in Environmental Health Science (–EHS), Nursing Science (–NS), Public Health Science (–PH), Case Report (–CR) and Letter to the Editor (–LE). However, the editorial board reserves the right to final decision.

 

Submission checklist

The following guide will assist in the final check list before submission of manuscript.

1. List of all authors and their affiliations.
2. One author has been designated as the corresponding author with contact details:

4. Full postal address.
5. Phone number.
6. Title page and full manuscript:
7. All figures (include relevant captions).
8. All tables (including titles, description, footnotes).
9. Ensure all figure and table citations in the text match the files provided
10. Include 5 – 8 keywords separated by semicolon (;).

12. A competing interest’s statement is provided, even if the authors have no competing interests to declare.
13. All references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text, and vice versa.
14. Ethical statement (if applicable to the manuscript).
15. Manuscript has been 'spell checked' and 'grammar checked'.
16. Permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources (including the Internet).

 

Changes to authorship

Authors are expected to consider carefully the list and order of authors before submitting their manuscript and provide the definitive list of authors at the time of the original submission. Any addition, deletion or rearrangement of author names in the authorship list will not be accepted after submission. In rare instances, the editors may accept a change before publications after a written notification from the corresponding author stating the reason for the change in author list, including or exclusion of author name.

 

Copyright

Upon acceptance of a manuscript, the corresponding authors will complete a “DECLARATION AND COPYRIGHT TRANSFER FORM”. Transferring the article right to the journal.  However, certain right as an author, include none commercial production of the published article, use of article data for conferences or seminars. The journal published open access under the Creative Commons Attribution License 4.0, which permits free reuse, remix, redistribution and transformation provided due credit is given.

 

Submission

The article should be submitted in Microsoft word document (Word) along with cover letter to the editor. The authors will receive an email confirming the successful received of the manuscript and a manuscript identification number (Manuscript ID) will be issued. All corresponding regarding the manuscripts should state the assigned manuscript ID. All correspondence, including notification of the Editor's decision and requests for revision, is sent by e-mail or through the journal website.

 

Reviewers

The corresponding authors is requested to submit a list of four (4) names and institutional e-mail addresses of potential reviewers who could review the manuscript in good time. The names should not be from any of the author’s home institution/department and at least one (1) from a country not of any of the author’s home country.

 

Peer review

The journal operates a double blind peer review process for all submission. All contributions will be initially assessed by the editors for suitability for the journal. The Editor-in-chief is responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of manuscript.

 

Acceptance

Accepted manuscripts must have undergone a successful peer review process with a plagiarism check below 20%.

 

Article structure

Title

The title should be concise and informative. Avoid abbreviations and formulae where possible.

Author names and affiliations

All authors name must indicate the given name(s) first and family name of each author and all names must be accurately spelled. Preferably, all names should be in sentence cases. Authors' affiliation addresses should be stated for all authors. Indicate all affiliations with a lowercase, superscript letter immediately after the author's name and in front of the appropriate address. Provide the full postal address of each affiliation, including the country name.

Corresponding author

Clearly indicate the correspondence name, email and phone number. The corresponding is responsible to answering any future queries about the manuscript

Abstract

A concise abstract of no more than 400 words is required. The abstract should state briefly background, aim of the research, results and conclusions. A one graphic abstract will accompany the submitted manuscript.

Keywords

Provide 5 – 8 keywords separated by semicolon (;). Avoid abbreviations in keywords, however, only firmly established abbreviation keywords may be used. These keywords will be used for indexing purposes.

Numbered sections

The manuscripts should be divide into clearly defined and numbered sections. Subsections should be numbered 1.1 (then 1.1.1, 1.1.2, ...), 1.2, etc. (the abstract is not included in section numbering).

Introduction

The section provided adequate background, avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results and state the objectives of the work.

Material and methods

Provide sufficient details to allow the work to be reproduced by an independent researcher. Methods should be stated clearly indicating appropriate references.

Results

Results should be described clear and concise.

Discussion

Discussion should explore the significance of the results of the work, and results repetition should be avoided as much as possible. A combined of results and discussion section can also be merged. Avoid extensive citations and discussion of published literature.

Conclusions

The main conclusions of the study may be presented in summary. Similarly, the conclusions section, which may stand alone or form a subsection of discussion.

Abbreviations

Define abbreviations used in this section. Ensure consistency use of abbreviations throughout the manuscript.

Acknowledgements

Acknowledgements of significant contributions to the success of the research should be stated in this section. The funding sources can also be started.

References

Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa). Unpublished results and/or personal communications are not recommended in the reference list, but may be mentioned in the text. Reference should be APA style as stated below:

AFTER ACCEPTANCE

Publication periods

The journal publishes articles online immediately after acceptance. The book issue is published biannually in the months of June and December respectively. Except in special cases, such as dedicated conference proceeding publications.

Publication fee

After acceptance, authors will pay an article publication charges (APC) of forty thousand naira (N40,000) only. Foreign authors will pay article publication charges (APC) of fifty dollars ($50) only.

 

Proofs

A galley proof (as PDF file) will be sent by e-mail to the corresponding author. All corrections will be made within 10 days of receiver of galley proof of accepted manuscript. Authors will be charge a service fee of twenty thousand naira (N20,000) only for any corrections after online publication of the manuscript.

 

Preprints

The Editor-in-Chief or Journal Secretariat Manager can be contacted for preprint of any published volume of the journal at a prescribe fee.
